Jewel Basin {a.k.a. Car Trouble}

So for our Saturday fun we decided to take one of our friends to Jewel Basin, a popular hiking area nearby. As we headed off from the base around 11 am we stopped to get some fruit and snacks for the journey that lay ahead. Little did we know that our journey today would lead us on some unexpected adventures.

As we were getting ready to turn onto the junction to lead us to the basin we noticed our car wasn’t getting the power it normally did. We thought that maybe it was just a fluke and that we should continue on the road. Well, right at the junction our car completely died. Yeah, totally dead–kaput. We all looked at each other like “I don’t quite understand what is going on here” and got out of the car. As our friend, Shanna helped me push the car off the side of the road we noticed anti-freeze pouring from the radiator. “Uh oh” was pretty much the things coming to mind. When we tried turning the car over it just wouldn’t start. We ended up calling a tow truck to come pick Shanna and I up and take us back to the base to retrieve her car and continue on to the basin.

Josh, Our tow truck driver didn’t come to get us until about 2 hours after we called. But Shanna and I talked about some awesome things while Drew took Eoghan down the road to the nearest cafe to eat lunch and keep cool. As soon as he left us we had a number of gentlemen come to our aid thinking we were damsels in distress. It was quite funny, the attention you receive when you are a lady on the side of the road.  : )  Anyways, Josh finally showed up and took us back to the base. On our ride over we discussed all sorts of things… He just had his fourth child born two weeks ago! How awesome is that? And that he has traveled around the United States quite a bit. And that he was born and raised right here on the lake.

We finally got back to the base, loaded up Shanna’s car and headed back towards Bigfork to pick up Drew and Eoghan. We were finally able to head off to our destination…

Before we hiked into the basin, we made a stop in Bigfork for a huckleberry milkshake and a picture with the local chief.   [CORT]
