Celebrating Easter

On Sunday morning, last week, Cortnie had to be at work at nine in the morning, but Eoghan and I slept in a little and got ourselves up in time to make the 10:30 service at Imago. I met some of our friends in the balcony, Josh and Margaret, and afterwards we decided to meet up later and take a drive to the Tulip Festival just outside of town.

Of course it rained on us for most of the drive over there, but it was still georgeous outside and having company to spend the holiday with made it really special.

On tuesday, we took Eoghan Egg Hunting in the Shakespeare Garden. We took him to this quiet little corner of the Rose Garden in Washington Park for this, his first-ever Egg Hunt. Cortnie and Eoghan decorated the eggs on the night before Easter. Instead of hunting for them on Sunday we spent Easter afternoon driving over to the Tulip Festival with some friends and saved the Hunt for the following Tuesday. The roses weren’t in bloom yet, but it was still so beautiful out there.

There were only eleven eggs counted at the end of the hunt because Eoghan smashed one to pieces during the decorating process. Actually, it was the very first egg he touched. But he apparently learned that gentleness and Farm-Raised eggs go hand in hand, and the rest of the eggs remained perfectly intact–well near perfectly anyway.

NEVER PUT YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET, BUT IT’S O.K. TO PUT THEM IN A WHITE PAPER BAG: When you watch the video of the egg hunt you’ll notice a white bag which we’re using to collect the eggs. The white bag is actually leftover from the Voodoo Doughnuts we bought earlier in the day (a Brooks Family tradition that’s a must on Tuesdays when we visit the Zoo, which is also located in Washington Park and was our next stop that day). I suppose the white bag replaces the traditional wicker basket to aid in egg collection, it was really just an improv move on our part but it may have to become a recurring character for future egg hunts and other Brooks Family outings…

[All in all, I think Cort and Eoghan did an excellent job decorating those eggs together. Notice Eoghan's great use of space, color, and eye flow. HEE HEE]    -ANDY
